World Mental Health Day:A Reminder to Care, Listen, and Act
On October 10th, we recognize World Mental Health Day, a time to raise awareness, break the stigma, and remind ourselves that mental health is as important as physical health. At In Her Name, this message carries deep meaning. We are dedicated to promoting mental health awareness, supporting those who struggle, and remembering lives lost too soon, like my Kathy, whose memory continues to inspire this work.
Bringing awareness to the mental health crisis starts with everyday conversations. In our personal lives, it means checking in on friends and family, listening without judgment, and being a safe space for those who need to talk. In our professional lives, this means advocating for healthier work environments where taking a mental health day is not frowned upon and where openness about emotional well-being is encouraged rather than hidden. Simple acts like sharing mental health resources or normalizing conversations about therapy can create powerful change.
Caring for our own mental health is equally important. Small, consistent habits can make a lasting difference: setting boundaries, prioritizing rest, taking mindful breaks, spending time outdoors, or practicing gratitude. It’s about giving ourselves permission to slow down and breathe, to take care of ourselves with the same kindness we offer others. Remember, healing is not a one-day event but a lifelong journey that deserves attention all year long.
As we reflect on World Mental Health Day, just know that everyone’s story matters, and everyone deserves support. Be gentle with yourself, be kind to others, and keep showing up with empathy. The world becomes a better place when we care for ourselves and for each other, every day, not just today.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t wait, call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Support is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
