Solid as Stone: A Message of Love and Hope
Over the next few weekends, I’ll be sharing mental health resources at three local American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Out of the Darkness Walks. As I prepared for these events, I spent a lot of time thinking about what I could offer participants. I wanted it to be meaningful and something Kathy would have loved.
Along with a few poems from my soon-to-be-released book and mental health awareness materials and swags, I’ll be giving away handmade “Solid as Stone” messages. I made each one at my kitchen table, night after night, thinking of Kathy and how much she would have enjoyed helping me create them.
In one of my poems, I imagined having a conversation with Kathy during her darkest moments. In it, I whisper softly, “You’re not alone. We’ve got this now; we’re solid as stone.”
I wasn’t there to help Kathy out of her darkest moments....to remind her how strong and beautiful she was, and tell her “You’re not alone. We’ve got this now; we’re solid as stone.” But through these Solid as Stone messages, I hope to tell others who are struggling in silence with their mental health that they are strong, they are beautiful, and above all, they are loved and are not alone.
If you’re attending one of the South Florida AFSP Out of the Darkness walks, please stop by my table, say hello, and take a Solid as Stone message.... from Kathy and I.
