| | A Note From Our FounderDr. Michelle Boodoo |
|
| Wishing you peace, love, and happiness in this new year. As we step into this new chapter, I want to take a moment to reconnect with both our longtime community and those who are new here. The start of a new year can bring hope, reflection, and sometimes quiet struggles, so I hope this space continues to be one where you feel seen, supported, and understood.
My name is Michelle, and in August 2022, I founded In Her Name, an organization dedicated to promoting positive mental health and preventing suicide. I hold a Ph.D. in Education and spent much of my professional life in higher education, but my life’s work took on a deeper meaning after losing my stepdaughter to suicide in April 2022. In her memory, I now focus on providing hope, resources, and support to individuals and families navigating mental health challenges. This journey is one of grief, love, and purpose, and everything I do is committed to helping others feel less alone in their struggles.
As we move forward into this new year, I encourage you to check in on your loved ones… often. If you’re struggling, please know that it’s okay to ask for help and to seek support. You are not alone, and your life matters. Thank you for being part of our community and for walking this journey with me… in her name. ❤️ |

| | | Talking About Suicide Can Save LivesAsking someone if they’re okay or if they’re thinking about suicide does not plant the idea in their heads.... it opens the door to honesty, relief, and connection. Many people who are struggling feel invisible and unheard, or afraid, or ashamed to ask for help. Your question could be the moment they finally feel safe enough to share their struggles. Start by checking in with your loved ones, creating a safe space for them to talk, listening without judgment, and reminding them that they are loved and not alone. |

| | Self Care IdeasSelf-care is essential for maintaining your physical and mental health. It can look like moving your body, enjoying a healthy meal, journaling, meditating, laughing with friends, getting creative, or simply unplugging and resting. Find what feels good for you, because self-care is personal. |

| | | Depression doesn’t always look the way we expect. Many people suffer in silence, even while smiling on the outside. Learning the warning signs helps us show up sooner, listen better, and offer support when it matters most.
Common warning signs of depression include: • Persistent sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness • Withdrawing from friends, family, or activities once enjoyed • Changes in sleep (too much or too little) • Changes in appetite or weight • Fatigue or loss of energy • Feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or being a burden • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions • Increased irritability or mood changes • Talking about feeling hopeless, trapped, or wanting to disappear
If you notice these signs in yourself or someone you love, don’t ignore them. A conversation can be a lifeline, and you can call or text 988 for help.
If you or someone you know is struggling with their mental health, please call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Support is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. |
|
