September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month ๐Ÿ’š

Each September, we take time to shine a light on a difficult but important truth: suicide is one of the leading causes of death, yet it is preventable. Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is a reminder that each of us can play a role in saving lives, in our families, our workplaces, and our communities.

How You Can Help Others:

  • In your community: Learn the warning signs of suicide, check in on neighbors, and share mental health resources.

  • At work: Encourage open conversations, remind colleagues about Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), and help foster a culture where mental health is prioritized.

  • At social gatherings: Take time to ask, โ€œHow are you really doing?โ€ A genuine conversation can mean more than you know.

  • With loved ones: Listen without judgment, show compassion, and remind them theyโ€™re not alone.

Breaking the Stigma:

  • Speak openly about mental health; it should be treated like any other health issue.

  • Replace judgment with empathy.

  • Share your own experiences if you feel safe doing so; it helps others know theyโ€™re not alone.

  • Encourage seeking help as a sign of strength, not weakness.

This month and every month, letโ€™s commit to building a culture of compassion, connection, and hope. Together, we can break the silence, end the stigma, and save lives.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please donโ€™t wait, call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Support is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
